How to move to Cilento and Vallo di Diano

The local public transport system is mainly provided by private operators connecting the coastal municipalities and inland areas.
The main companies operating in the territory include:

  • Infante Bus, mainly active along the Cilento Coast, providing connections between tourist destinations such as Marina di Camerota, Palinuro, Pisciotta, Acciaroli, Pioppi, Santa Maria di Castellabate, Agropoli, and Ascea.
  • Autolinee Curcio, connecting the inland municipalities of the Vallo di Diano—including Sala Consilina, Padula, Polla, Buonabitacolo, Sassano, Teggiano, and Atena Lucana—with coastal centres and major cities such as Vallo della Lucania, Salerno, and Naples.
  • Autolinee Lamanna, offering services connecting the municipalities of the Vallo di Diano with Salerno, Naples, and the Gulf of Policastro/Sapri area.

Autolinee Lamanna and Autolinee Curcio regularly update their timetables. Travellers are therefore advised to check the official websites before departure to confirm the exact routes and schedules for the selected travel period.

Travelling by train is a convenient option, especially for moving along the Cilento Coast.
The main railway stations on the Tyrrhenian railway line are:

  • Agropoli – Castellabate
  • Vallo della Lucania – Castelnuovo
  • Ascea – Velia
  • Pisciotta – Palinuro
  • Centola – Palinuro – Marina di Camerota
  • Sapri

These stations are connected with Salerno, Naples, and other Italian cities through regional trains, Intercity services, and, in some cases, seasonal Frecciarossa high-speed trains.

In the Vallo di Diano area, rail transport is more limited, and connections between municipalities are mainly provided by buses or private cars. Trenitalia offers replacement bus services connecting Sala Consilina with the main railway network (Naples Central Station, Battipaglia, or Salerno).

Taxi services, private transfers, and shuttle services are available in several tourist destinations and are mainly used for:

  • Connections between railway stations and tourist centres
  • Transfers to hotels or ports
  • Evening transportation within coastal towns

Many accommodation facilities also provide shuttle services for guests to reach beaches or points of interest.

💡  Recommendations :

  • The inland roads of the Vallo di Diano and the hill towns of Cilento can be narrow and winding.
  • It is advisable to check Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL) and parking availability in historic centres and villages. In Castellabate, Agropoli, and some villages such as Palinuro town centre and Marina di Camerota, ZTL restrictions are particularly active during the summer season.

Metro del Mare - Cilento lines

The Metrò del Mare is a seasonal maritime transport service designed to explore the Cilento Coast and the Amalfi Coast, with hydrofoils and fast vessels operated by Alicost. It offers an alternative to road traffic, allowing travellers to move between ports and seaside destinations. It is ideal for day trips or scenic transfers during the holiday season.

The routes operating in summer 2026 are structured as follows:

- Metrò del Mare 2026: Line A1 Salerno-Amalfi Coast (Via Agropoli); Line A2 Salerno-Cilento Coast.  
- Metrò del Mare 2026: Lines B1 and B2 from Agropoli to Sapri
